The original elephant experience. Randall Moore's fabulous camp in the Okavango Delta is a brilliant symbiosis of luxury travel and conservation. This experience is one never to be forgotten. Totally unique.

Abu's Camp is world-renowned for its unique elephant experience in the heart of the Okavango Delta. In the midst of all of this fabulous natural environment - an enormous, beautiful oasis of rivers, streams, pools and lush islands, sitting on the edge of the Kalahari - Abu's Camp brings one of the planet's most loved and certainly its largest creatures into close, personal contact.

The elephants will look after you during your stay. They will carry you over the lagoons and streams of the delta, safely out of reach of whatever predators and game you meet along the way but enabling you to approach wildlife as if you were not there. You will walk amongst the herd and the matriachs will 'hold your hand' as you go, giving you a brief insight into the complex social rules of the herd.

The Delta's beauty is enhanced through this added dimension. One finds oneself feeling the tug of a deeper appreciation and understanding of the nature all around and grown men are prone to weep at the slightest provocation!

Randall Moore, the pioneer behind this sanctuary and rehabilitation programme, is recognised the world over as a leader in his field. In order to finance part of the operation, he foresaw the future of eco-tourism and Abu's Camp (Abu was the first Matriarch of the herd) was born. There are now several released elephants out in the wild as a direct result of Randall's efforts.

The camp itself attempts not to be outshone by the beauty and magnificence all around it - and almost succeeds. A stunning combination of wooden decking and tented accommodation, meanders over the island and wraps sympathetically around the trees. Split in levels and forming many private sundowner decks, every tent has its privacy and its own magnificent view across the delta.

The main lodge building is exquisitely comfortable, adorned with African art and outside by the bar is a deck where the camp meets to dine. Here, out over the water, the day's events are discussed, tomorrow's planned and one reflects on the value of this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
