Sikkimense Puccio, Selinunte, Sicily, Italy
From SikkimensePuccio one cannot fail to be struck by the impressive view of Selinunte across the olive groves, site of some of the largest Greek temples in the world and behind it the shimmering blue of the Mediterranean.

Originally an olive oil Baglio, Sikkimense Puccio has been lovingly and sympathetically restored by its owner who has preserved all its original features such as tiles, beams and stone arches. Here, on the west coast of Sicily, in the heart of a richly historical region, lies a property with a very unique feel and charm. One arrives through a stone archway into a pebbled courtyard and approaches the impressive, heavy wooden doors of the house itself. One is immediately struck by the series of arches that lead all the way to the far end of the house, creating a cloister-like sense of space and calm. Sikkimense Puccio comprises four bedrooms and bathrooms, each with their own living area and fireplace, so that by night the doorways within the arches can all be closed, providing privacy and independence.

Each section enjoys its own comfortable sitting area with stairs up to a mezzanine style bedroom and extensive views across the olive groves. Each of the unusually shaped double beds is specially handcrafted to fit into the space allowed. Bathrooms are all spacious and stylish with pretty, traditional Sicilian tiles and rose showers. Throughout the property the emphasis is upon uncluttered space, cool stone and the use of local materials; this un-fussy decorative style, highlighting the impressive views of Selinunte from many of the bedrooms and bathrooms. Delicious meals are provided by the friendly and charming Philippino couple and can be enjoyed in the courtyards at either end of the house or in one of the living rooms, which can also be used as a dining room.

A short walk away down a track is the swimming pool and it is only a ten minute drive to the wonderful, virtually empty beaches, not forgetting the hours one can spend exploring the temples at Selinunte - a truly awe-inspiring spectacle. Further away are the fascinating towns of Agrigento, Marsala and Segesta and all around is the spectacular scenery of inland Sicily. This property is, however, a great place simply to relax with friends, enjoy the excellent service provided and escape from the world outside.
