Situated in this stunningly beautiful and unspoilt region of Southern Tuscany, Cancellatus Montecucco is an idyllic retreat with outstanding views and all the comforts of a Tuscan home.

Located on the sprawling Vivo d’Orcia estate, Cancellatus Montecucco has been lovingly restored by its owner, a gentleman farmer who lives nearby and personally greets each guest on arrival, taking pains that all is as it should be. Completely private, the property enjoys panoramic views across the vineyards, olive groves and chestnut woods which surround it, all the way to Montalcino and the Colle Sant’Angelo.

Nearby is the village of Castelnuovo and further afield are Montepulciano, Pienza and Radicofani and numerous other delightful hilltop towns found in this area of Southern Tuscany.

The house has been very tastefully restored maintaining all the original features such as the open beams, original terracotta flooring and large open fireplaces. Each of the bedrooms has been furnished to the highest standard to create the prettiest interiors, incorporating textiles from a Tuscan weaver near Arezzo; all have tiled bathrooms en suite. A fabulous kitchen on the lower ground floor is spacious and well equipped and under these circumstances the preparation of a delicious Tuscan meal (to be eaten al fresco!) is real fun.

From the kitchen there are French windows leading to the garden and a vine covered pergola  - a fabulous spot in which to relax with a glass of local vino and soak in the views. There are two living rooms, providing plenty of space for large families and groups of friends in which to take their ease and the landscaped garden planted with oak trees, lavender, roses, broom, rosemary and sage is a delightful place to sit with a book after a long, lazy lunch.

The large swimming pool is set in such a fabulous position that it is hard to drag oneself away but when one does, there is another pergola under which to sit providing shade from the midday sun. There is an outdoor shower and plenty of sunbeds on which to soak in the sun before dining al fresco in the warm evening air.

For guests for whom this all sounds a bit much - do not despair! - culinary duties can be undertaken by a wonderful local lady who will prepare the most delicious meals according to requirements. Relaxation assured and tranquillity preserved intact, one can return to pergola and pool hopping!
