Cernuum Alexandra is uniquely positioned in the countryside outside Marrakech, with views to the Atlas Mountains. Its extensive grounds and luxurious rooms are tended by excellent staff in this rural idyll.

Built in the 1950’s by a French Colonel and recently renovated in keeping with Moroccan and Mediteranean style, Cernuum Alexandra is an excellent destination for a couple of families or a gathering of friends. With its four acres of walled gardens, tennis court, heated swimming pool and covered terrace area for al fresco dining, there are plenty of relaxing diversions to choose from, after a morning looking around the souk in Marrakech.

Here, the fascinating and stimulating culture of Morocco can be perfectly combined with reflection and rest - aided and abetted by the the four charming staff who manage the house excellently. Delicious meals are created by Hadija, who cooks authentic Italian meals in addition to every Moroccan delicacy. Latif, the butler and driver, ensures that guests are looked after with ease and discretion, whilst Raschida and Hamid take care of the cleaning, gardens and pool.

Inside, all the rooms are on one floor, leading off one ‘wing’ of the house, lending an overall sense of space and comfort. The owner, a collector of antiques from all over the world, has tastefully combined traditional Moroccan pieces with antiques from countries including Syria and Great Britain.

A large entrance hall leads to the dining and drawing rooms, both featuring arched windows and doors to the terrace and garden and a fireplace in the dining room is a welcome addition in the cooler months. Throughout, the floors are a combination of polished stone and bejmatt (small Moroccan bricks), Egyptian tapestries hang on the traditional tadellakt walls and doors and windows and shutters have been hand crafted in the local cedar wood.

Large double bedrooms have been thoughtfully decorated with hand-woven silks and fabrics. Two have fireplaces and all have fabulous en suite bathrooms. Up on the vast roof terrace are two seating areas, one with a dining table to seat up to eight people and a fantastic larger cushioned area for typical relaxed Moroccan dinners under the stars.

Near the house is the self-contained Pavilion with its own terrace and views to the mountains and overlooking the pool is the Pool House with every facility to hand such as fridge and towels as well as two more single beds.
