Ant's Nest, Waterberg, South Africa, Africa

A beautiful private bush home - the ideal retreat in which to relax amidst a dramatic African landscape.

Ants nest, waterberg

Ant’s Nest is a beautiful, rustically furnished bush home which is managed by its young and energetic owners, Ant and Tessa Baber. Kenyan influences show in the lovely, planted lawn below the long, colonial-style veranda, whilst the Baber family are amongst the oldest settlers in the country,  when the ranch was tobacco and cattle. Set in the midst of a private game reserve in the Waterberg, three hours north of Johannesburg, it is the ideal retreat at which to relax amidst a dramatic African landscape whilst having a unique experience of game viewing.

It is Ant and Tessa’s policy to take only one booking at a time, even just one couple, in order to ensure that every individual is perfectly looked after. The perfect hosts, Ant has lived all his life in the Waterberg, is a passionate conservationist and has a local’s understated  knowledge of the bush - it is a real privilege and a pleasure to go on a game drive, ride or walk with him. The exclusivity Ant and Tessa offer means that every aspect  of your stay is personalised and tailored exactly to your needs. From safaris especially designed for children to galloping through the bushveld, nothing is too much trouble.

Ant’s Nest was created to preserve the fauna and flora of this diverse region which is home to over forty species of game including the rare sable antelope, white rhino and giraffe. The reserve itself is protected by a large sweep of the Waterburg hills and incorporates a variety of landscapes - one of the best ways of exploring is on horseback.

Well-schooled horses suitable for all abilities are provided and riding with game is one of the most exhilarating of African experiences. Meals are a real treat when taken al fresco, particularly under an African sky and they are often in the most surprising locations.
