Tucked away on an unspoilt island in the Indian Ocean, yet only fifteen minutes’ flying time from Mombasa, Funzi’s unique appeal is its luxurious seclusion and beautiful natural scenery. Each of the individually designed rooms has a hand-carved, king-size four poster bed and is imaginatively furnished with local wooden artefacts, colourful fabrics and a Jacuzzi, in addition to the over-sized bathroom and shower. The airy cottages have been thoughtfully provided with fans, safes, cool-boxes, fresh coffee and tea, plus complimentary beach accessories. In front of each is a secluded area ideal for sunbathing and relaxing in privacy - or for enjoying cool sundowners by the warmth of your own campfire. Designed to blend unobtrusively with its idyllic beachfront setting and to reflect the influence of the local culture and coastal architecture, the ten cottages constructed of stone and thatch are set along the high-water line.
The essence of Funzi is the total informality with no dress code or fixed meal times. Guests can choose when and where to eat - maybe in the upper level restaurant overlooking the water, a lazy lunch by the pool, or a romantic candle-lit dinner on the beach. At its heart is the informal yet stylish main building, where guests can relax and enjoy refreshing drinks served from the dhow-shaped bar or sample delicious island fare featuring freshly caught seafood and locally grown fruits and vegetables, overlooking the water.
Everything is included here (all food and drink) and the superb hospitality is automatically thrown in, further enhancing the relaxed atmosphere and uncomplicated enjoyment. Life at The Funzi Keys is relaxed and many guests do little more than unwind on the wooden deck of the spectacular free-form pool, or treat themselves to a pampering massage. But for the more energetic, the hotel offers a wide variety of water sports and activities - deep-sea fishing in the Pemba Channel, scuba diving and snorkelling in the Kisite Marine Park - or alternatively soaking in one’s own private jacuzzi, waiting for the sundowners to arrive.
