Kssour Agafay was originally owned by a noble Moroccan family and has been classed by Unesco as a world heritage building. This glorious Moroccan residence has been painstakingly restored over two years by a team of up to one hundred expert local craftsmen and is the only riad in the medina to boast a stunning courtyard on the first floor of the building. Catering to a bohemian crowd of international travellers and colourful local residents Kssour Agafay is set to become the centre of Marrakechi society and its melting pot of cultures and characters.
Kssour Agafay has six fabulous bedrooms, a spacious roof terrace, inner courtyard with some of the finest carving, wall paintings and stone-work making it a very fine riad in which to stay but it is also a private Culture and Music Club into which members can drop in when visiting Marrakech. Purchased in 1997 by Abel Damoussi, the owner of the fabulous and luxurious Kasbah Agafay hotel, the Kssour represents something quite unique in Marrakech, the philosophy behind it is “to create an environment which celebrates culture and promotes cultural exchange...It is a tangible example of Yed el Henna” - the traditional symbol of a hand representing friendship and peace.
Each of the bedrooms has been meticulously restored using original 15th century features and with tadelakt bathrooms designed to blend in with the individual character of each bedroom. Meals are delicious, there is a library where members can donate their favourite book and the whole place feels like a welcoming home. Members (residents) automatically receive an Agafay Town and Country Club membership card allowing them to make full use of all the benefits offered by both Kssour and Kasbah Agafay. The Kssour is a delightful and memorable venue in which to stay with a private group of friends or alternatively, as a couple looking for a more unusual riad experience. It is also a fantastic venue for a private party where all kinds of music and entertainment can be arranged and enjoyed way into the night beneath the sparkling North African sky!
