Along Mexico's Pacific coast, nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Sierra Madre Mountains, an enchanted paradise beckons those with an appreciation for nature and an affinity for the unique

Nestled on a wetland estuary between the Sierra Madre Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, the Hotelito Desconocido is located in one of the most important sea turtle and bird reserves in Mexico. The owner, Marcello Murzilli, upon selling his company, began a two-year sailing expedition around the world and, after numerous scouting trips, found this forty-mile stretch of pristine coast.

To begin, expect the unexpected! Imagine camping with luxury linens, netting draped over the bed and romantic candlelight everywhere - in the air, a symphony of cicadas, birds and the Pacific Ocean itself - you’ll know this is no ordinary getaway. Hotelito Desconocido means 'little known hotel' and you will feel priveleged here.

Constructed in the style of an old Mexican fishing village, the accommodation is provided in ‘Palafitos’, bungalows of indigenous construction, built on stilts over the river’s edge. Palafitos have bathrooms with outdoor bamboo showers and wooden floors. Palapa roofs rise over the color-splashed interiors - hand-painted murals and whimsical antique curios - unmistakably and memorably Mexican.

It is easy to disconnect here - in fact it’s essential - with no phones, neighbouring restaurants, nightclubs, or shopping; only a delicious tranquility for those in search of seclusion. To this end the ‘El Mundo de la Salud’, a primitively luxurious spa, offers the full range of massage and spa treatments designed to relax, invigorate and heal. Only solar energy is used here and at night, hundreds of candles light the rooms, pathways and restaurant, casting a magical aura over the whole lodge.

A variety of Mexican Specialties are prepared with the finest ingredients, in the two restaurants, with an emphasis on seafood, fresh fruit and vegetables - most of which are grown in the Hotelito garden. An inventive system for room service - simply pull a rope by your bed and a red flag is hoisted, signalling that you are ready for your coffee. With a generous dash of the creative, the Hotelito Desconocido is a conscious respite in an overly revved up world.
