Right in the centre of Sandton and Johannesburg, this boutique hotel really is offering something quite different. Only ten, individually designed suites but each with a huge amount of space, guests are looked after personally, in great comfort. Nothing is too much trouble for the friendly staff and anything can be arranged with the minimum of fuss.
There are so many little touches - the complimentary room bar, steam showers in the bathrooms, open fireplaces (already laid up and ready to go!) and a comprehensive directory of what’s on where in Johannesburg - the perfect ‘pied a terre’.
Each suite is designed by a different firm of interior architects and although most guests will not get the opportunity to compare and contrast unless they return to do so, the effect of the competition has been to produce ten fabulous interpretations of the theme.
Originally a private home, the family still own and run Ten Bompas as the exclusive hotel it now is. The restaurant called ‘Sides’ and a magnificent glass-sided, multi storey wine cellar, overlook the swimming pool in the central courtyard. Moving away from fusion cuisine, Sides serves classic dishes and old home favourites skillfully produced by the chefs and always made from the very best produce. Complimented by the excellent choice of wine, it provides an excellent dining experience.
Everywhere there are wonderful examples of African art and the sculptures, in particular, are great fun. This really is a haven in the bustling and extremely up-beat Johannesburg of the twenty-first century, a town with a positive vibrancy and colour. Not just a long-haul resting place but a great base for some city exploration - whatever the reason, Ten Bompas provides a memorable experience, backed up by fantastic hospitality.
