Wolwedans, The Namibrand Nature Reserve, Namibia, Africa
The land changes colour magically by the hour as the scenery shifts in shadows and Wolwedans’ camps provide perfect hospitality and exclusive luxury from which to experience the magnificent natural spectacle of the desert.

One of Southern Africa’s largest private conservation areas the reserve features every kind of desert landscape from mountains and golden grasslands to the dunes ranging in colour from yellow-gold to brick red, in the waning light. Here, the land changes colour magically, by the hour and the scenery shifts in shadows, cast by the towering dunes. Game wanders in and out, silhouettes in the distance, emphasising the magical romance and beauty of the landscape.
The Wolwedans collection of camps - the civilised camping experience that is the Dune Camp, the extremely comfortable Dunes Lodge and the exquisite Private Camp - offer a range of comfort from which to choose in this otherwise inhospitable environment. In all there is a warmth and personal service which must originate in the traditions of hospitality of the desert peoples; for outside one’s luxurious tent, just over the edge of the wooden verandah, lies the awesome grandeur and breathtaking beauty of a nature quite capable of demonstrating man’s frailty.

On the edge of a two hundred and fifty metre high dune, the Dune Camp provides rather a civilised tented experience in a totally unspoilt setting. Just six dome tents - but with flush loos and hot showers en suite! - sit on their own decks, ranged around the Lapa, comprised of a lounge, dining area and sundowner deck with an open fireplace.
The Dune Lodge, again built on wooden platforms to create the least impact on the environment, sits atop a dunes plateau with panoramic views on all sides. Swimming pool, wine cellar, library, sitting rooms and open fires provide the luxury in the lodge whilst each of the nine canvas and wooden chalets has a bathroom en suite, private deck and panoramic desert views. The Private Camp is in a secluded valley of its own and is designed for a small party to relax in utter luxury and contemplate the desert in order to ‘get away from it all’.

Experienced guides introduce guests to the diverse fauna and flora of the Namibrand - on foot, by car, plane or hot-air balloon. Picnics in the wild, sundowners on the dunes and dinners by candlelight on a full day’s safari or lazing by the pool, admiring the changing view; the choice is yours. In this land of outstretching blue skies and endless plains, one can find tranquility and peace of mind and it will create an impression on one’s imagination that will last forever.
