In the heart of the Palmeraie just outside Marrkaech’s medina is Jnane Tamsna – two delightful houses within a walled garden where guests will feel as is they have been transported to another world. “Jnane”, which means “paradise garden” was inspired by the concept of a Moorish hacienda and is built around two interior courtyard gardens whilst “Moussafir”, the “House of the Traveller” is situated in the garden and evokes a journey from Northern India to West Africa. The whole property has been created in harmony with the rural traditions of its oasis environment with the owners playing special attention to the creation of a home where style and modernity have been thoughtfully and sympathetically fused with respect for local customs and needs.

Jnane House has ten bedrooms and vast roof terraces with stunning views of the High Atlas Mountains. The large living room with fireplace enjoys colourful rugs and typically attractive Moroccan daybeds as well as a beautifully intricate carved wooden alcove. The spectacular verandah is a fabulous place to while away the day and a small path leads through a lavender garden to the large swimming pool. In Moussafir each of the five large suites has its own private garden, roof terrace and fireplace and there is a smaller lap pool and private garden for those guests wishing to take Moussifir on an exclusive basis.

The whole property can be booked exclusively or by the room or either Jnane House or Moussafir can be taken by separate groups. Service at Jnane Tamsna is impeccable and one of the outstanding features of the property. The delicious fresh food includes vegetables harvested daily from the garden and nothing is too much effort for the enchanting owners and their willing entourage of staff. One can also enjoy a number of courses and activities organised at the property such as cooking classes, photography workshops and days hiking in the Atlas Mountains; and after a day’s exploring the Medina and the Souk of Marrakch returning to Jnane Tamsma is a dream. It really does feel like home but with all the comforts and luxurious of an excellent hotel atmosphere of a magical and mystical world.
