This charming hotel in the heart of Chianti is an extremely well-run and comfortable property with an excellent restaurant and its own olive oil and wine production.

Relais Fattoria Vignale overlooks the beautiful and pristine Radda valley – a classical Tuscan scene of rolling hills with cypress trees, olive groves and neatly planted vines. Indeed, the history of the Relais Fattoria Vignale is linked with the history of Chianti wine. Records date back to 1773 when Peter Leopold Grand Duke of Lorraine wrote that the Falconi family, then owners of Vignale, were trading and sending wine to England. Since then, the Pianigiani Family, who succeeded the Falconis, have greatly developed the wine production so much so that they were responsible for the creation of the ‘Gallo Nero’ (the Black Roaster) and the creation of the Chianti Classico consortium.

Relais Vignale has been thoughtfully and tastefully restored maintaining the ancient and original features of the property and incorporating antique furniture and modern facilities. There are three elegantly furnished sitting rooms each with a fireplace and outside, the pretty courtyard leads down to the heated swimming pool, outside dining areas and stunning views of the Radda valley. All the bedrooms and suites are individually styled and furnished and some enjoy private terraces where one can relax with a glass of Chianti wine whilst enjoying the captivating view.

Guests at the Relais will enjoy dining in the excellent and well-known Ristorante Vignale, on the panoramic terrace beneath the hotel, specialising in exquisite Italian cuisine. The town of Radda is a delightful medieval town and a lovely place to wander and enjoy the very special charm of Chianti.

The Relais Vignale's wine estate, the San Donato in Perano winery, is roughly 4kms from the hotel and guests can enjoy a delicious lunch and dinner in either of the two panoramic restaurants here - Ristorante San Donato, the gourmet dining experience or the Osteria Le Braci.

Nearby are the enchanting towns of Castellina, Greve and Gaiole as well as a wealth of cultural places to visit further afield such as Siena, San Gimignano and Florence. There is also plenty of fabulous walking, cycling and horseriding in the surrounding countryside for the more energetic although you may find it hard to drag yourself away from the pool!
