Turtle Inn, nr Placencia, Toledo, Belize, Belize, Central America
‘When I first visited Belize, I was searching for the same jungle paradise I enjoyed while shooting ‘Apocalypse Now’ in the Philippines. I discovered it tucked away in the Maya Mountains and invite you to do the same’ - Francis Ford Coppola.

Built on the rubble of a hurricane’s wrath, the owner Francis Ford Coppola says - ‘I made the resort as rustic as I love and as luxurious as I could, so that my family would join me there’.
Turtle Inn’s Balinese-inspired cabanas have artisan-crafted furnishings, luxurious Japanese baths and a broad, screened deck to welcome in the tropical sea air. Built so that guests may enjoy luxury in the spirit of the natural landscape, the villas and cottages are scattered along the seafront or set back in their own private gardens. Villas have two beds and bathrooms whereas the cottages have one and all have private gardens except those on the seafront, where the warm waters of the Caribbean are just feet away.

Featuring Italian cuisine, fresh seafood and local specials, The Mare Restaurant procures most of its produce from the massive organic garden at Blancaneaux Lodge. The Skip White bar creates refreshing cocktails throughout the day and into the evening and you may also enjoy a cool drink a few steps from the sea at the Laughing Fish bar. The charming atmosphere and casual chic character is very well established and provides an opportunity for complete relaxation. Alternatively, Belize is considered one of the top diving locales in the world and Turtle Inn specialises in attentive, professional dive services, dedicated to guests’ individual needs.

Thai massage is on hand for any emergency de-stressing and then it is back in the sun, dip in the pool, or dash into the warm sea. There are complimentary beach-bicycles at your disposal or one can explore Monkey River by boat for the chance to observe Howler Monkeys, tropical birds, iguanas, crocodiles and many other species of wildlife. On the return trip, stop in Monkey River village for a lunch of local Creole cuisine.

Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary is the world’s only Jaguar reserve and is a superb place for birding, hiking and wildlife viewing. A picnic lunch here, followed by cooling off under the refreshing waterfalls really brings home the very sensible choice of tropical island living.
