Chateau de brindos, biarritz

Sir Reginald Wright made Chateau Brindos a notable location of the 1930’s for receptions, tea-dances and banquets. In its romantic dreamlike setting, time stands still in a nostalgic atmosphere and the chateau appeared in many iconic images at that time. Now, it has been beautifully restored and discreetly combines this wonderful history with the modern innovations necessary to a luxury hotel.

On the edge of the Basque countryside overlooking a beautiful private lake strewn with lillies, guests are seduced by the gentle way of life here. Stroll through the large Centenary Park or sit quietly over the water and read a book. Chateau de Brindos is relaxing and magical. The reception leads through to the magnificent baronial great hall - full height, galleried with stone flags and massive fireplace - off which give the restaurant and bar. The suites are all up above and the more modern addition to the property houses the rooms, gym and hammam. The suites and rooms are very comfortable - individually decorated and all look out onto the lake - and they are well spread out, giving great privacy. Exercise in the weight room or the outdoor heated swimming pool, or take a run around the lakeside path and then relax - the sauna and magnificent hammam are at one’s disposal.

Brunch, lunch or dinner are served up by Antoine Antunes and are fabulous affairs. On the terrace, inside or by the pool, he loves to share his passion for culinary delights and the rich and varied flavours of original, creative and authentic cuisine. Marc Pony’s famous cocktails await one in the Bar des Boiseries, very cleverly decorated in thirties style, recreating the haydays of yesteryear.

Basque country is fascinating and the Spanish border is a short drive away, all creating a fascinating melting pot of culture and history. There is so much to discover if one is able to drag oneself away from the Chateau and its beautiful lake.
