The Cotton House, Mustique, Caribbean
Surrounded by the Caribbean Sea to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east, the Cotton House provides one of the most pristine holiday locations in all of the Caribbean.

Conceived as a public building by Lord Glenconner after the original design by Oliver Messel, the present incarnation of Mustique’s most famous hotel sprawls across thirteen acres of palms and lawns between two glistening Caribbean bays. The Great Room is a rambling, verandah-wrapped barn, where fresh seafood and beautiful local cuisine are served by the friendly well-practised staff.

Charming cottages and houses take their places in the beautifully landscaped gardens rising up from L’Ansecoy Bay. The sugar mill, remnant of a bygone era, stands like a sentinel within the plantation-style architecture. A fresh sea breeze sweetens your senses as you take in the moment. Sailing, scuba-diving and snorkelling, tennis, motorboat excursions or horseback riding - any activity can be arranged, without fuss, although The Beach Café and Bar, newly-opened Spa and Pool terraces could be considered more than adequate exertion by some. Enjoy the signature Caribbean recipes of the Cotton House cuisine - the freshest ingredients are combined with the perfect wine pairings and guests are invited to enjoy an after-dinner drink or a cigar on the verandah, from their own special selection.

One may escape the midday sun at Messel’s Folly around the Cotton House pool. This hilltop vantage offers sweeping views of the lush island terrain with its elegant hillside villas. Like Mustique itself, the mood here is whimsical and relaxed. Take a complimentary ‘mule’ for a tour around the island - Basil’s Bar & Restaurant located over the water on the pier is just the kind of island hangout you’d expect to find and The Fire Fly is straight up the hill from here and the venue for many of the island’s spontaneous parties. Overall, The Cotton House is just the place to relax and unwind - with as little or as much social tittilation as one might require - in a low key but enchantingly romantic, timeless setting.
