Robin's House, South Luangwa National Park, Zambia, Africa

Robin Pope’s house on the banks of the Luangwa River is well-established and homely in the traditional style. These safari guides always look after themselves so guests can be assured of a great stay.

Robin's House lies on the edge of Nkwali Camp, on the banks of the magnificent Luangwa River. The Luangwa National Parks have a distinctly ‘wilder’ feel to most in Africa - roads are cut anew each season, visitors are fewer in number and game behaves more naturally - which results in a much more rewarding experience, especially when on foot face-to-face with a lion!

Recently renovated, this private house is ideal for families, honeymooners and guests looking for a little privacy. Set apart from the camp, Robin’s House has an amazing view of the animals that come down to drink and life on the river bank.

The house is situated under a grove of large trees and is well shaded from the hot African sun. Large windows allow light to flood into all the rooms - two luxurious bedrooms (a double and a triple), each with its own bathroom and a central sitting and dining room - and all have wonderful views. The wonderful house staff is led by the chef and valet, who will take instruction so that meals can be served where and when one wishes. Ideal for families with children, child minding can be arranged and there are many hosted activities which can be arranged for children, allowing adults to relax and enjoy the quiet river sliding by.

Days are as full or languid as one wishes. The private guide is always on hand with your safari vehicle for game viewing activities and if one should want to make forays on foot - really the best form of safari -  an armed scout can be easily arranged.

Evenings are spent dining al fresco after long sundowners on the terrace, reflecting on the day’s safari by boat, canoe, over land or on foot and making plans for the next.
This is the perfect place to enjoy the African bush with friends or family and proceed entirely at one’s own pace in a location where - we found - an entirely satisfactory day’s adventures can be had in a hammock on the verandah, overlooking the river.
