Clayoquot, Victoria Island, Canada, Luxury tents, Gourmet cuisine
Clayoquot, Bedwell River, Victoria Island, British Colombia, Canada
Surrounded by the beautiful wilderness on the western cosat of Victoria, Clayoquot provides a way to get away from it all; fishing, canoeing and walking whilst a luxurious tent and superb service await at the day’s end.

On the far side of Victoria Island, only accessible by float plane or boat, the Clayoquot Outpost at Bedwell River is a beautiful introduction to the natural wonderland of the Strathcona Provincial Park. Indulgent luxury is found here under canvas in the style of the Great Camps of the nineteenth century - just sixteen guest tents and around them the dining tents, spa tentsand lounge tents with the log cook house in the middle.
The day starts with morning coffee, brought to you along the cedar boardwalk from the cookhouse and the log burner roars into life. Hot and cold water are on tap and a gorgeous breakfast awaits.

The Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Reserve is the last and best example of temperate rainforest on the planet and the environmental protection program is funded solely by the resort activities. Guests spend days, picnic in hand, strolling through the huge valley meadows, mountain glaciers as the backdrop. Follow the river or the numerous trails, canoe or kayak up the Bedwell waterways, ride through the old-growth forest to the edge of the Strathcona and visit the abandoned gold mines of ‘Bear City’.

There is wonderful bear, porpoise and whale watching and the fishing - whether deep sea, river or the ultimate fly-in - is superb. The chef is always on hand to replenish any lost energy with his gourmet cuisine and many guests opt for the alternative activities of lazing in a hammock in the afternoon and succumbing to the pampering of a session in the spa.
At the end of the day, Tim May’s fantastic cooking never fails to impress and compare notes in the outdoor lounge over a sundowner before slipping back to the tent for the perfect fresh-air sleep of a true pioneer.
