Palmwag Mobile Safaris, Kunene, Namibia, Africa
In the deserted remote northwest of Namibia, Cesar Zarnberg leads incredible mobile safaris for those very few who are lucky enough to visit this beautiful country.

Between Etosha and The Skeleton Coast, Palmwag Lodge is ideally placed in the remote northwest of Namibia to explore the beautiful land of the Himba. There are no permanent camps here and only the nomadic Himba are able to survive in this harsh desert environment.

Into this untouched dramatic and breathtaking landscape, Cesar Zarnberg leads mobile safaris on foot with scouts relocating the camp during the day. Cesar is the man who taught Ray Meares his tricks and what he does not know about bush craft and especially the desert landscapes of Namibia, is not worth knowing. Safaris are intensely interesting and whilst Cesar and his team point out every little thing from the dung beetle and chameleon to the rugged and resourceful desert-adapted plant life, the odd desert elephant and rhino will be sure to make an appearance, too.

Either entirely walking-based or using a combination of walking and game driving to cover more ground, the comfortable camp is awaiting guests at the end of each day. Dome tents and solar showers adequately take care of safari comforts and the drinks are chilled to the perfect temperature. Days always finish by mid-afternoon so that everyone can relax in camp before sundown, after which delicious three-course suppers are served at the ‘lodge’ table by lantern light. Breakfasts are of the full-English variety, providing fuel for the morning’s walking and lunches of cold meats, cheeses, pickles, salads and fruit tend to spring out from behind a rock or materialise under the shade of a tree at just the right moment.
Walking with guides like these in such a remote and beautiful country - untouched and with no one around within 5,000km2 - is as privileged a safari experience as one can get. Enchanting, fascinating and everything going along at the pace it should, the experience will never be forgotten and perfect when reflected upon from the luxury of Serra Cafema Lodge at the safari’s end, in the pristine country on the Angolan border.
