Fingals Hotel, River Dart, Devon
Fingals Hotel, Dittisham, Devon, England, British Isles
More a home than a hotel, Fingals is hard to beat as one of the very best places to switch off from today's hectic life.

Fingals is situated in a beautiful and enchanting private valley close to the River Dart and and is the quirky, atmospheric and very special home of Richard and Sheila Johnston. Completely relaxed and easy-going, Fingals is quite unique in what it offers its guests and many return time and time again to this delightful country 'hotel'.

Inside, the style is eclectic and welcoming. All of the bedrooms are different from one another with an individual character and careful thought has been put into the furnishings and decoration - each has antique beds with luxury mattresses and bathrooms en suite. The sitting room is fabulous with oak beams, wood panelling, antique rugs and open fires and the perfect place to relax with a book from the extensive selection of reading material in the library or to unwind with a glass of wine and play cards or a board game - a rare treat these days!

Dining at Fingals is a very important part of a stay here and dinner is served in the original wood panelled dining room on one long table. Richard Johnston ran his own excellent restaurant for many years in London and foodies staying at Fingals will certainly not be disappointed. Ingredients are locally sourced and as much as possible they are organic. Dinner is a great time to meet and make new friends but those guests looking for a more private experience then there is also the smaller panelled dining room.
There is plenty to do for the more energetic - tennis court, heated swimmimg pool, croquet and mini gym as well as activities locally such as rowing on the beautiful River Dart or exploring the many coves and beaches nearby. Fingals is the perfect place to do as much or as little as you wish and great for both a long weekend, a midweek break or a relaxed summer holiday with the family.

Staying at Fingals is, in a word, bliss!
