Castello di Celsa is a very special private property owned by the aristocratic Aldobrandini family. It is not open to the public and remains one of Italy’s best kept secrets with its elegant interiors, formal gardens and views across the Celsa valley to Siena. Originally a conservatory where lemon trees in terracotta vases were kept in winter, the former property has recently been restored and furnished with an exquisite sense of harmony, space and comfort. Downstairs, the spacious living room and gorgeous country kitchen have glass doors which lead onto a charming terraced garden with pergola for al fresco dining back inside is the spacious and beautifully furnished dining room with seating for twelve. Typical of an aristocratic home in Tuscany, the property has been decorated and furnished  with exceptional elegance and good taste and the antique furniture and muted coloured walls blend perfectly with the style and well proportioned features of the house. Upstairs, the bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious and wonderfully comfortable with embroidered bath towels and luxurious bed linen and it is hard to draw oneself away from the view across the gently rolling hills to the skyline of Siena.

Outside is an absolute joy for those guests who appreciate beautiful, mature gardens. Old fashioned Musk roses, rosemary bushes, cyandrus, yellow broom and blue tinged sage fill the air with their fragrances on Rotundifolia Limonaia's landscaped grounds and one can soak in the atmosphere with a novel and a glass of local vino as one lies by the fabulous large swimming pool surrounded by irrigated lawns. For the more energetic there is a tennis court on the premises for the use of guests and for lovers of gastronomy then Giancarlo Giannelli, a talented restaurant owner, cookery book author and tutor, gives inspirational cookery classes in the mornings or evenings, after which the group can gather to enjoy his creations.

Nearby, one is spoilt for choice one it comes to places to visit. Just ten minutes drive from the property is Sovicille, a pretty hill top village where one can enjoy a cappuccino with the locals and a little further away are San Gimignano, Colle Val d’Elsa, Siena and Montalcino, rich in culture and history as well as some excellent markets, restaurants and wineries. Or guests may wish to visit Florence, Lucca or Pienza, all within easy reach of the property.

Back at home, every detail has been thought of for the comfort of guests. The wonderful housekeeper, who has been on the estate for many years, can shop and prepare meals if one wishes and guests will love the delicious local fare including salami and fresh tomatoes from the estate prepared for one’s arrival at the house. There is even a masseur who will come to the property so guests can relax with an Ayurvedic massage or Reflexology after a day’s guided tour of Siena on the cobbled streets!
