The Esprit St Germain opened in 2004 and, designed more along the lines of a private residence than anything else, it sits very comfortably in the sixth arrondissement - a cosy hotel in the heart of Paris’ literary and artisitic quarter. Convivial, friendly, intimate yet elegant - nothing too modern except the hospitality which is highly advanced.
Comfortable moleskin settees, a library well-stocked with books and magazines about Paris, the open bar for guests to help themselves and a wonderful, vaulted refectory in the basement for sumptuous breakfasts - the owner, Laurence Tafanel is a great traveller and wanted to create the perfect hotel. The ideal pied a terre where it is pleasant to live, a contemporary infrastructure within an eighteenth century facade, coffee at eleven, tea in the afternoon and friends welcomed for a glass of champagne around the fire in the evening before discovering Paris by night.
Each of the twenty-eight bedrooms is unique but all have the same sense of comfort and refinement. Soft velvet and organza materials in muted discreet colours of grey, moleskin, maroon and beige create harmonious oases. Terraces look to Saint Sulpice off some rooms, bathrooms are in natural slate and breakfasts can be served in one’s bedroom at no extra charge. On the roof is a relaxation area with gym equipment, a sauna and steam room and massage is available on request...
