Serra Cafema Camp, Kunene River, Namibia, Africa

Serra Cafema Camp, one of the remotest destinations in all of Africa, offers one of the most memorable experiences. The natural beauty and tranquillity of this place combined with fascinating desert life is perfectly enchanting.

Perched on the banks of the Kunene River, in the high northwest of Namibia close on the Angolan border, Serra Cafema Camp shares this land with none but the native Himba. These remarkable people - wonderful and colourful - are some of the last truly nomadic people of Africa and the only ones who can survive in such a harsh environment.

The camp has nine canvas and thatched chalets each with its own bathroom en suite, built on decks interlinked by wooden walkways to protect the fragile environment. One falls asleep to the gurgling water music coming from the cataract downstream - a comforting and luxurious sound amid all this desert.

The breathtaking landscape is dotted all about with Springbok, Ostrich and Oryx and guests can make guided quad-bike excursions over the sand dunes, boat on the Kunene River or walk in the remote mountain and river valleys - a privileged highlight not to be missed. There are large herds of Oryx and Springbok in the Hartmann’s Valley and the Kunene River has a large population of Nile Crocodiles. The Rufous Bellied Palmthrush and Palm Nut Vultures - along with strange endemic reptiles - make celebrity appearances from time to time.

Days are spent on safari and relaxing in the lap of luxury, sitting by the pool, enjoying fabulous cuisine and sipping sundowners, treasuring the breathtaking views across this most remote corner of Africa.
