At 1,500m altitude on the side of the Vigiljoch, a great hotel lies in the forest - Vigilius, resembling a fallen tree - made from wood, clay, glass and stone,  patterned on nature and with tranquillity as its goal. This architectural marvel stands on the site of the original Berghotel Vigiljoch which was built in 1912. Matteo Thun’s new design - to surround and shelter guests in creative architecture - Vigilius allows one to experience the immensity of the mountains without being lost in it.

There is no noise here - guests leave their cars in the valley and progress by cable car - only the natural forest sounds. Warm colours, spacious rooms and panoramic windows - Larch wood has been used in th finishing and it fills the air with scent. Light and shadow streak the interior, depending upon the angle of the sun.

A the heart of the hotel, the Piazza is where guests meet - for morning  coffee, aperetifs and after dinner drinks by the roaring fires. 35 rooms and 6 suites are mimimalist in their modern design - lots of wood, little furniture and good lighting, the bathroom is divided from the bedroom by a free-standing wall of stamped clay. All rooms have a wonderful view, some facing sunrise and the others sunset.

The Spa offers every kind of treatment one can think of, using everything from fir cones to the natural spring water which also flows in the swimming pool. There are saunas, indoor and outdoor whirlpools, reflexology, massage or if this seems too much, one can simply loll on the deck.
