Little Good Habour, Barbados, Caribbean

Old Barbados waits for guests of Little Good Harbour in the shape of this lovely small family-run hotel near Speightstown. Colourful, characterful and charmingly stylish.

Situated on the far north of the west coast of the island, a small, charming, private hotel set in beautiful gardens is so reminiscent of the Barbados of twenty years ago that you could almost be stepping back in time. Just a few miles up the road from Speightstown, Little Good Harbour is tucked away a short walk from the tiny village of Six Men’s Bay and is a well-kept secret. Not the glitz of Sandy Lane, this is old Barbados. There are little wooden houses, market stalls by the beach and cane fields. It’s tranquil. It’s beautiful. It’s what Caribbean life should be.

Just a few minutes north of Port St Charles, this charming cluster of cottages, nestled around a central swimming pool and lush tropical gardens, are very much Caribbean in architecture and offer the discerning traveler something a little different from other hotels. The original Seventeenth Century Fort Rupert has been tastefully adapted to create the Fish Pot Restaurant and bar and two luxurious Fort Suites. The other cottages are colourful in Bajan style and have private terraces surrounded by tropical vegetation. All elegantly appointed with Balinese furniture and striking Caribbean art, the suites are supremely comfortable.

Each suite has a fully equipped kitchen so that guests can really settle in and make Little Good Harbour home. One has all the privacy of one’s own private villa yet with the amenities of an Hotel. The fridge is stocked with groceries prior to your arrival and indeed everything prepared for guests to get straight into Barbadossing on arrival.

The Fishpot is a delight - praised by Michael Winner as the best in Barbados - guests sit right by the sea and enjoy the fabulous fresh Caribbean cuisine washed down with Chardonnay. This, on the advice of Australian-born Andrew Warden, the owner who having embraced Barbadossing seems to speak from a position of wisdom.
