This beautiful, pristine private reserve, malaria-free and home to the ‘Big 5’, offers luxurious comfort and great game experiences in its congenial, relaxed atmosphere.

Makweti sits within its own private game reserve of 33,000 hectares, three hours’ drive from Johannesburg in the beautiful Limpopo Province. Part of the Waterburg, a natural heritage site, the varied terrain of escarpments and bushveld constantly surprises with stunning views and incredible sunsets whilst the altitude keeps it free of malaria.
The camp is intimate and luxurious - just five secluded chalets built of stone and wood - set upon the forested slopes of a hill, commanding spectacular views. Each chalet has an outdoor shower as well as one indoors and victorian bathtubs, fireplaces and private viewing decks add to the fun, comfort and excitement. The camp is completely un-fenced so guests can expect the unexpected visitor at any time - it is quite exciting to watch these wonderful animals from the otherwise relaxing waters of the plunge pool!

The main lodge building reflects an African heritage being decorated with antique artefacts and hand beaded fabrics throughout. There are many comfortable seating areas and decks, including an indoor dining room and fire-lit boma and one can even see game at the water hole from the comfort of the Indaba which has its own decking platform. The cuisine is excellent - a fusion of European with African - and there is always a varied menu, complemented by the fine selection of South African estate wines.

The park itself boasts the largest number of white rhino on its private reserve, as well as lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, cheetah and wild dog. One can explore by Landrover or on foot, under the guidance of Makweti’s skilled rangers who delight in interesting guests in all aspects of tracking and flora and fauna, including over three hundred bird species. Congenial, relaxed and private, this enchanting setting will delight newcomers to the bush with its wildlife and the most discerning travellers with its unique landscape experience.

The park is within easy self-drive range of Johannesburg if one was planning an independent tour or the flight takes just thirty-five minutes - London to Makweti in twelve hours. Tempted?
