A barefoot paradise in the Robinson Crusoe style - casual and stylish - for the ultimate in relaxation amid stunning views over the remote bay and wide Indian Ocean beyond.

Fundu Lagoon is the epitome of a ‘bare foot paradise’ with a distinct Robinson Crusoe air in a remote and peaceful location. It has been designed for couples and groups of friends looking to escape the usual holiday crowds. Divers and watersports lovers are particularly well-catered for, who are looking for a perfect combination of quality activities and some of the best diving in the world. Whatever your wish, Fundu Lagoon provides a friendly, relaxed haven of peace and outstanding natural beauty.

Fundu is on Pemba Island, the sister island to Zanzibar lying across the Pemba Channel to the north. The hotel is situated on a remote and beautiful beach on the south western side of the island and is only accessible by boat. There are sixteen chalets, consisting of spacious tents, set under makuti thatch roofs on wooden decks and each with a view over the ocean.

The rooms are equipped with large double or twin beds, mosquito nets, ceiling and standing fans and indoor and outdoor seating areas. Each has its own hardwoodpanelled bathroom with walk-in shower with hot and cold running water and presents the exclusive Fundu Lagoon product range created from local resources. The rooms are connected to the main buildings by sand walkways. Some are situated along the beachfront with the remainder in an elevated position, overlooking the ocean and cooled by the gentle breeze. Two of our chalets are beachside suites with their own private chillout decks and plunge pools and there are also two superior suites.

Days here revolve around the boating activities although the treatment room is well worth a visit, where one can choose from a long and tempting list of rejuvenating treatments. One can choose to relax in the pontoon bar or stroll around the beautiful mangroves along the shore. The waters of the Indian Ocean are among the richest and most exciting in the world. Around Fundu Lagoon, on Pemba Island and in the Pemba Channel, the ocean is renowned in both Scuba Diving and Fishing circles as one of the world’s best. This is truly a great venue for diving and relaxing therafter - the food is remarkably good - and should certainly be on every underwater enthusiast’s horizon.
