In a private reserve of 35,000 acres on the western edge of the Kruger, Garonga is a unique blend of spa and safari lodge, allowing guests to relax and become in tune with their surroundings.

Garonga is an exclusive camp in the greater Makalali Conservancy to the west of the Kruger where the emphasis is on bringing guests into intimate encounters with thier surroundings and wildlife. This pristine wilderness suprises visitors with the variety of game it holds and always one is encouraged to join in the tracking process - almost as exciting as actually seeing the animals - whether on foot or in vehicles, bringing in an added level of interaction.

The idea is to offer an unhurried and intimate wildlife encounter with time to reflect and find inspiration in nature. One can either embark on every activity on offer, or do nothing at all but explore the merits of lazing in a hammock with a good book, watching the grazing impala.
Game drives and wilderness walks bring one up close and personal with the animals and unforgettably exciting sleep-outs - take a picnic to a raised deck built around a tree - overlooking a waterhole, with only a net to soften the sounds of the comings and goings of the African night! Outdoor bush-baths are also great fun and a Garonga first. There is something marvellously decadent and about relaxing in the tub whilst the bush comes back to life around one and soaking in the sensation of being part of the scenery.

Taking its architectural design from the termite hills around the reserve, the main lodge building, rich in ochre colours, reflects the textures of the earth with decorations and artifacts of Moorish origin. The suites are stone walled with canvas above and out-door bathrooms are strictly for star-gazers - The incredible Hambleden Suite with its own pool and hand-carved ebony four poster bed is somewhere to disappear for several days and emerge having gone almost completely native - if an extremely refined one!
The friendly, natural atmosphere is complimented by excellent service, gourmet cuisine and a fantastic wine cellar creating an all-encompassing experience which is supremely enjoyable.
