Everyone thought Vivian Read was mad when he decided to convert the derelict Ca’n Moragues estate into a small luxury hotel but seven years later Reads Hotel was the result. Now family-run with several generations of character involved, Reads has won many accolades, including a Michelin star for its food and boasts one of the best spas in Europe.

Reads sits at the foot of the Tramuntana Mountains amidst lovely gardens planted with palms and ancient olives. Just fifteen minutes’ north of Palma, Santa Maria is surrounded by lovely little Mallorcan villages and is next door to the home of Mallorca’s finest wine - Macie Batle. Any beach or town is easily reachable from here - Soller, Pollensa, Andratx -  and the wonderful concierge can arrange anything for without fuss - from boat hire to theatre. Mountain bikes are at the disposal of guests and trails range from the gentle olive groves to the Tramuntanas.

Reads has only twenty-three rooms, all of which are a very good size and each is individually furnished, has its own theme and they are of all shapes and sizes. The attention to detail is very high and all modern amenities have been provided for guests’ comfort.

Next to the huge outdoor pool is the Vespasian Spa, housing a heated indoor pool full of hydrotherapy and surrounded by suites of every kind of massage, steam, reflexology and gym one can think of. This truly is a great spa set in beautiful surroundings.

Days can be spent however guests wish - anything is possible - from taking the train to Palma and onto Soller, mountain biking to a nearby village for lunch or relaxing at the hotel, punctuating the day with visits to the Spa.
