Tom Lithgow - named after his father who created the Ngorongoro Crater Conservancy - has been running his classic mobile camp in The Serengeti for years and startling guests with the quality and authenticity of his operation.

Tented camp

Discover one of the largest and most varied concentrations of wildlife and landscapes in the whole of Africa. Mwanga Moto tented camp offers exclusive luxury tented safaris hosted by Tanzanian born Tom Lithgow, each a unique and unforgettable experience into the pristine Serengeti.

Over the past 50 years the name Lithgow has become synonymous with the finest East African Safaris - Tom senior, showed Clark Gable and Ava Gardener the ins and outs of old style Africa - now his son, raised on a coffee farm on the slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater, has for the past 20 years continued the excellent family tradition of personally guided safaris.

Tents Tent area

The Serengeti is spectacular and Mwanga Moto will show it to you in ways that few others ever experience it. Known for flexibility and personal attention their intimate knowledge of the area combined with superior equipment means that guests are taken to places most people don’t know about.

The classic tented camps are set amidst breathtaking landscapes and full of charm, privacy and convenience. Lanterns by night, silver tea service with scones, steamer chairs, cigars and cognac - evenings begin with hot showers then ice-cold drinks around a campfire before dinner complimented with fine wines and tall tales.

Dinning Bedroom

Each over-sized classic tent ensures privacy and other creature comforts. The bedroom is furnished with a hand carved bed and fine linen, there is a separate dressing area and the shower is just outside the rear exit next the loo - all en suite!

Days begin with the gorgeous African morning and the promise of superb bush cuisine with breakfast or lunch elaborately set up under an ancient Acacia tree out on the plains, in the mess or as a picnic by a watering hole. Discuss the day’s adventures over cocktails before the blazing campfire and dinner in the mess and afterwards relax in vintage teak furniture in the study or browse the library, cognac in hand. Everything is rustically luxurious and recalls the romance of days gone by.

Family room Game drive

Each day guests join the knowledgeable wildlife trackers on a exciting game drive to obscure regions of the park or lie in wait at a favourite spot in custom designed Land Cruisers, almost completely open to the elements. Unfettered by routine, one is free to view the enormous herds of zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and gazelle and not alone - this march attracts many predators such as lion, hyena, jackal and cheetah. The acacia trees dotting the landscape provide natural look-outs for leopard who pass the day lazily surveying the open grass land.

In the Serengeti, Mwanga Moto selects its campsites for their scenery, privacy and proximity to a lake or river. Moving seasonally to follow the game, the camp is always where the game is at its most exciting and one would not want to be anywhere else.
